Fun and Affordable Autumn Festivities in New Jersey

The borough of Mt. Arlington is a beautiful area in New Jersey’s prestigious Morris County. The borough is in the northern section of the garden state, and is surrounded by a ton of neat townships, lake communities, and nature-filled areas to explore.

When the cooler months of fall come around, Mt. Arlington and its neighboring communities transform into even more of a welcoming place, offering a variety of fun activities to enjoy throughout the months of September, October, and November. So whether you like to cozy up with a warm cup of coffee and soak in the colors of the ever-changing leaves, or give yourself a little fright during a spooky adventure, Mt. Arlington is the perfect place to be this fall!

1.    Go apple picking.

When it comes to apple picking, the earlier the better – which is exactly why Sun High Orchards in Randolph, New Jersey kicks off their apple picking season at the very beginning of fall, during the first weeks of September. Upon arrival, you’ll be handed as many bags as you’d like to fill. Gala, Red Delicious, Granny Smith and McIntosh are just a few of the kinds that customers call their favorites. Because specific types of apples ripen at different times throughout the season, make sure to call ahead so that you can go picking for the ones you like most!

2.    View the fall foliage.

Landing, New Jersey is home to the all-inclusive Hopatcong State Park, which is just minutes away from Mt. Arlington. And although there will be plenty of chances for Mt. Arlington residents to see the colorful leaves from their own backyard, Hopatcong State Park is full of breathtaking fall foliage views that the region is known for.

The park – which comes to a grand total of 163 acres – is literally bursting with red, yellow, and orange hued trees during the autumn months. These can be easily seen while fishing or enjoying lunch from the picnic area, but if you’re up for a little exercise, hiking one of the many trails within Hopatcong State Park will reveal even better views.

3.    Wander through a pumpkin patch.

Nothing is more reminiscent of fall than a pumpkin, whether it’s carved into a jack-o-lantern or the flavoring in a hot coffee beverage. Mt. Arlington residents can get the full seasonal experience when they visit Donaldson Farm in Hackettstown, New Jersey – just a short car ride away from the borough – where there are unlimited pumpkins to choose from. Pumpkin picking at Donaldson Farm is the perfect day trip for families, friends, and even a date. Beginning late September and ending on Halloween day, the pumpkin patch is open for business. Hayrides are also available on Saturdays and Sundays during this time, which takes Donaldson Farm visitors to and from the pumpkin patch.

4.    Celebrate at the Halloween Bash.

Mark your calendars for October 21st – that’s when the borough’s annual Halloween Bash is taking place, and it’s free for everyone who would like to attend. Hosted by the Mt. Arlington Board of Recreation Commission, the event is a safe, exciting affair for all ages, and truly something that the entire community will enjoy. A children’s costume contest, trunk or treat event, car trunk decorating contest, and other Halloween-themed activities are planned for the evening, and they definitely will not disappoint.

More information on the Halloween Bash for this year has yet to be released, so if you’re interested, check the borough’s official website for updates and important messages!
